The Idea File

An hour after I read Robin's last post and video about where she got her inspiration, I found a ten-year-old idea file. I had forgotten this file existed. It wasn't in the right place. (At least it was in a folder in a file drawer.)

I pulled it out, wondering what stories interested me when I first began my writing journey.

Turns out I was interested in crime. Teen-age crime.

I found articles on teen drinking. On fist fights. On fist fights that led to death. On young mothers and dead babies. On drug busts.

I have never written anything on any of these subjects.

But I have been toying with an idea for a long time about a young girl accused of a crime she didn't commit. I have no clipping for this crime.

But I have an idea. And the idea scares me.

Ideas that scare you deserve to be written, don't you agree?

  1. It's the ideas that scare you...the ones that stick with you and keep niggling at your brain, are the ones you have to write! Go for it!!!

  3. Perfect. Yes, if it scares you -- awesome. That means it's emotionally moving somehow and needs to get out there. Good luck!

  4. I'm so happy to be thinking about "what next!" That must mean I'm getting close to finishing "what now!"

  5. I agree, if it's scary, that means you're taking it very seriously, and you should definitely write that sucker!
I'll admit, I have an idea or two that I haven't been brave enough to start -yet!

  6. Scared may translate to compelling, emotionally charged writing. If so, go do it!
